Looking Around

While having a general look around, I decided to have a closer look at Deep Yellow (ASX: DY{), and what I saw was interesting. The latest announcement shows one of the directors more than doubling hi share holding, buying on-market. And I thought: Wow! That's a vote of confidence. What's going on? So  I lookoed back a few months to a presntation the company did at Noosa, and what I read was very inteesting. If  I was looking at long-term, I would investigate some of their claims further, and look deeper into the industry. Their charting looks very interesting, both of their share performance and of the uranium pricing. And the uranium pricing is looking very interesting after a 10-year holding pattern. They are very diversified (geographically) and this leads to various claims about future company performance. There are also various claims and forecasts about the future of nuclear energy. So it is always important to do some deper research, but I think this one is well w...

Knowledge is Power

In my last post I touched on the need to know about how the share market works. Let me ask you this: If you were a sailor, would you set out without knowing anything about the weather or tides or the currents? Of course not. In fact, you would know what the weather was expected to do over the next week or so, expecially if you are going on an extended journey. Not doing that could threaten your life. The stock market is the same. Knowing how it works, what the influencers are, what the timing of certain events (quarterly reports EOFY reports, specific market reports for specific companies - after all, you don't need to know the world's weather for a day's local sailing, just the weather in your area - news events (like the USA Presidential elections), etc), what the charts look like, and more.  Nasically, the more you know, the better your chances of making great decisions. Surround yourself with knowledge and knowledgeable people, and that will significantly improve your ...

Making A Decision

When to buy? When to sell? These are your fundamental questions, and they are impacted by a multitude of influences around you, not least of which are influencers (family, friends, analysts, news reports, the tarot cards). The reality is that the ultimate decision is yours and yours alone. So, when you make that decision, make it for reasons you are comfortable with. For instance, I have recently sold off BOT shares. Now I am sure that this company will skyrocket, but I had already made 500% on my investment and I needed the cash to pay for some extraordinary expenses in my daughter's education.  And there is no better investment that I can make than in my daughter's education. So the shares went. I am not too worried, I know there will be other opportunities, there's always another boat getting ready to leave. In fact, one of my co-workers put it very well: The opportunity of a lifetime happens twice a day on the share market. Perhaps that should have been "share mark...

Eat The Rich

Have you watched Eat Thr Rich? It's on Netflix. It's basically the story of how amateur investors got together through social miedia platforms like Reddit to manipulate the market. Along the way, a lot of amateurs got rich and a lot of professionals lost fortunes. Yes, it's basically a doco, and there is plenty of live footage and flash interviews, but it is told well and hard to turn away from. Could it happen again? Could a penny stock rise into the hundreds of dollars in a very short space of time? It's possible. It's all about getting the hype out there and watching it grow. And that's the reality of social media. It doesn't need the truth to effect change. And then, just a few hours after writing this quick note, I discovered that someone I knpow from Hungary watched the whole thing unfold in front of him. No, he didn't join in. But he agreed that it was sheer madness. Enjoy the movie

From The Master

I keep coming across this sentiment from Warren Buffet (if you are unsure who he is, Google him and be amazed). It goes a bit like this: The stock market is about transferring money from the impatient to the patient. It has been quoted a number of different ways, but the basic idea remains. And I agree. There are plenty of times when sitting on my hands and being patient paid huge returns, and that continues in my current portfolio. Yes, I love the interplay of finding a new stock, making a quick profit and then finding another new stock. For me, that's interesting and fun. But I also appreciate the times when you find a stock and hang on to it for as long as you can to get maximum benefit, and right now I have 2 of those: DTR and BOT. DTR is a sleeper (as I have said beofre) but should turn into a monster (from a base of, currently, 0.5 cents). BOT is ready to jump, just as soon as sales results hit at the end of 2024. Now, it is unwise to go off my timing, and wise to figure you...

When An Announcement is Made

When an announcement is made (aka when news drops) the regulator (in Australia, it's the ASX) decides whetther it is price sensitive or not. But the reality is that all announcements have the potential to effect a price movement. It doesn't matter what you think, it matters what the account manager at teh ASX thinks. So, while it may not seem logical to you or me, we have to deal with it and react in a way that suits our risk profile and portfolio. Good luck in your investing adventures.

Looking Ahead

Well, the quarterly statements are all out and I have had some interesting reading, especially in relation to 1AI (I can't find a quarterly statement for IMC, it may be overdue and if that's the case there could be a short-term issue with the ASX). The next round of quarterlies promise to be quite exciting across the board: DTR should have a minerals update, or at least a preliminary mine plan update; BOT will have the latest sales data out of Japan (that update is due any day now) along with how Korea and the USA markets are progressing: IMC should be have some news about their Travelan trials (and yes, I communicated with management about using travel influencers to promote their product, and that is a big part of their approach with the US market0; 1AI looks to have exciting data coming online and the starrt of what could be massive steps forward. All in all, an exciting three months ahead, followed by an election in November. And you can almost guarantee that the result wi...

Not Even A Couple of Weeks

DTR jumped this morning and anyone who got in at 0.5 cents is already 20% up. I did let a couple of people know last week that they could make a quick buck. I wonder if they acted. Me? I'm happy with where it is heading. I reckon it will slowly work its way back to where it was before all the palaver around the share placement... yep, around 1.1 cents. And then... There will be news about the resource estimate being revised, and the mine plan being adopted. Realistically, you can choose to make a quick dollar with DTR, or you can go for the longer haul and just put a packet of shares aside of 4-5 years. At that stage, I woould think, looking at their plans and the resource undere their feet and the fact that REEs will probably rebound by then, I would think that the ROI would be in excess of 1000%. And that's not bad in anyone's book. Of course, this is not financial advice and the market is a fickle creature. I also think that it won't happen in a steady nature. I reck...
